# MCP Integration

Howly exposes your portal through a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, so AI assistants like Claude can query your workflow health and issues directly, without opening Howly.

All MCP tools are **read-only**. Claude can inspect and explain your workflows, but it cannot change, publish, delete, or activate anything.

## Set up the connection

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open your account settings">
    In Howly, go to your account settings and find the **Howly MCP** section.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create a new token">
    Click **New token** and give it a name. It defaults to "Claude Desktop," but any MCP-compatible client works.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Copy the configuration">
    Howly generates an `mcp-remote` configuration containing the Howly MCP URL and your bearer token. Copy or download it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add it to your AI client">
    Paste the configuration into your client's MCP settings (for Claude Desktop, under Settings → MCP), then save.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Ask a question">
    Open a new chat and ask something like "What's the health score of my HubSpot portal, and what are the top issues?"
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  The raw token is shown only once. Save it when you create it. You can rename or revoke a connection later from the same screen.
</Warning>

## What you can ask

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Portal health">
    Overall score, total workflows, active count, and issue counts by category and severity.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Workflow issues">
    A detailed list filtered by severity or category: broken enrollments, stale, orphans, empty, and more.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Workflow summary">
    A plain-language overview of what any single workflow does.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Full workflow details">
    The complete configuration of a workflow: triggers, actions, and connections.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

Example prompts:

* "What's wrong with my portal?"
* "List all my inactive contact workflows."
* "Which workflows are part of circular dependencies?"
* "Walk me through what the Lead Nurture workflow does."
* "Give me a workflow cleanup plan."

Answers come straight from your live Howly data.

<Note>
  Pair Howly's MCP with HubSpot's own MCP and you can ask about your workflows and the rest of your CRM in the same conversation.
</Note>

## What the MCP cannot do

The connection is read-only. It cannot edit or create workflows, turn them on or off, delete them, publish changes, enroll or unenroll contacts, modify records, create lists, or change properties.
