When your portal loads, every workflow appears on the canvas as a card, organized by object type, with section labels grouping Contacts, Deals, Companies, Tickets, Leads, and any custom objects. Each card is color-coded by its object type, so you can tell Contact, Deal, Company, and Ticket workflows apart at a glance. A status indicator shows the workflow’s state: Cards for a workflow that contains an AI or Data Agent step (from HubSpot’s Agent Hub) carry a small agent badge, so you can see where AI actions live across the portal at a glance.

Map modes

Howly gives you two ways to look at connections, and they answer different questions.

Connection Map

Shows every connection in the portal at once. The whole dependency graph, so you can see the overall shape of your automation and spot the densely connected workflows.

Journey Map

Focuses on one workflow’s path. Click a workflow and Howly traces just its connected chain, dimming everything unrelated, so you can follow a single journey without the noise of the full graph.
Clicking a workflow switches you into Journey Map for that workflow automatically. Toggle back to Connection Map from the toolbar when you want the full picture again.

Direct vs. Routed lines

Separate from the map mode, a Direct / Routed toggle controls how the connection lines themselves are drawn. Your choice is saved per portal.
  • Direct draws each connection as a straight line. Cleanest when you have a small number of connections and want relationships at a glance.
  • Routed draws rounded, stepped lines that bend around cards instead of crossing through them, keeping dense portals readable.
Both use the same labels, so a list-based or property-based connection reads the same way in either view.

Connection types

Howly automatically detects three relationships between workflows:

Direct enrollment

One workflow has an “Enroll in workflow” action that explicitly sends a record into another. Shown as a direct line between the two cards.

List-based

One workflow adds or removes records from a HubSpot list, and another uses that list as an enrollment trigger. The connection is labeled with the list name.

Property-based

One workflow sets a property value, and another is triggered when that property meets a condition. The connection is labeled with the property and value.

Semantic zoom

Zoom out and workflow cards collapse into compact labels so a large portal stays readable at a distance; zoom back in and they expand to full cards. Status and note markers stay visible even in the compact view, so you never lose track of what’s active or flagged.

Active vs. inactive

Active workflows show at full opacity; inactive ones are dimmed so you can tell what’s running from what’s off. When you filter or search, matching inactive workflows are shown at full opacity so nothing gets lost.

Search and filters

  • Search: press / anywhere on the canvas to open search. Type any part of a workflow name to filter in real time. Press Escape to close.
  • Filters: narrow by status, object type, trigger type, and action type. Filters combine, and you can drill all the way down to a specific property or property value. Active filters persist across refreshes.

Keyboard shortcuts

Canvas lock and auto-save

The lock button in the bottom toolbar prevents cards from being accidentally dragged. When locked, you can still pan, zoom, and click, but positions can’t change. Card positions auto-save to your account, so your layout is restored when you return. Use Reset layout to reorganize everything back to a clean grid.
